The Japanese soprano Risa Ichikawa demonstrated remarkable musical line and made a charming duo with the Chinese tenor, both in Bernstein’s delightful hymn and in the romantic duet between Danilo and Hanna.
For a while, the concert seemed to revolve around the young singer, featuring these two duets, followed by a brilliant rendition of Oscar’s aria from Un ballo in maschera with striking trills and a gracefully articulated Parisian melody by Poulenc.
