Biography

Soprano Risa Ichikawa, originally from Osaka, Japan, received her Bachelor of Music degree from Tokyo University of the Arts after graduating from the Vocal Music Department of the Osaka Prefectural Yuhigaoka High School of Music.
In 2021, she was awarded a scholarship from the Kyoto French Music Academy, which led her to pursue further studies in Paris. At the École Normale de Musique de Paris, she completed the Diplôme du 2ème Cycle Supérieur in Vocal Performance (2023) and the Diplôme du 3ème Cycle Supérieur – Artist Diploma (2025), both with the highest honors.

She began her artistic journey with classical ballet and later expanded her training to include jazz, tap, and other theatrical dance forms. At the age of 20, she studied dance in New York, further deepening her physical expression and stage presence.

In 2024, she was a semi-finalist in the George Enesco International Singing Competition and received a “Très Bien” distinction at the Maîtres du Chant competition. In 2025, she was selected to perform in the École Normale’s internal vocal competition Gala de la Voix.

In August 2025, she made her operatic debut in Tokyo, performing the role of Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. She is scheduled to appear as Noémie in Massenet’s Cendrillon at Tokyo’s Nissay Theatre in November 2025.

Her refined diction and sensitivity to poetic language have earned her particular recognition in French and English repertoire from both juries and audiences.
Ichikawa continues to explore the intersection of music, movement, and language in her work, aspiring to create performances that transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries.

She has studied voice with Tomoko Isojima, Yukiko Tanaka, Noriko Sasaki, Rie Hamada, and Marie-Thérèse Keller, and has worked with Akiko Koizumi and Edwige Herchenroder as vocal coaches.
She has also participated in masterclasses with Howard Watkins and Jorge Parodi at the 2025 Tokyo International Vocal Arts Academy (TIVAA); with Renata Lamanda at the 2024 Académie d’été Sequenda; and with François Le Roux and Anne Constantin at the 2023 Académie Francis Poulenc.
